Manual Therapy

Manual Therapy includes several different hands-on techniques to mobilize and manipulate joints, improve muscle activation and timing, improve mobility and function of tissue and muscles, modulate pain, and reduce soft tissue swelling and inflammation.

Exercise Therapy

Exercise Therapy involves a systematic exercise programme, designed to correct impairments, improve function and preserve a state well-being. Exercise programmes focus on strength, endurance, flexibility, balance and coordination. Continued exercise is key to injury prevention and maintaining of function.

IMS / Dry Needling

Intramuscular stimulation (IMS) is a dry needling technique used to relieve musculoskeletal pain caused by tight, irritable muscles. Acupuncture needles are inserted into tight muscle bands or trigger points, which triggers a reflexive relaxation of the muscle, initiates healing of the tissue, and restores normal nerve function. IMS is usually prescribed in combination with manual or exercise therapy programmes. Your therapist will advise whether IMS would be an appropriate treatment option based on your assessment results.

Electrotherapy

We offer a range of electrotherapy treatment methods to help with pain management and healing of tissue. Treatments include:

  • Ultrasound

  • Laser

  • Interferential (IFC)

  • Transcutaneous Nerve Stimulation (TNS)

Post-Operative Rehab

Post-operative therapy is essential in helping you regain strength, mobility and functional ability after surgery. We provide rehabilitation services for the following:

  • Spinal Surgery

  • Hip and Knee replacements

  • ACL construction

  • Rotator Cuff repairs

Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave therapy is a multidisciplinary device used in physiotherapy and sports medicine. Also known as Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT), shockwave is a non-invasive procedure that creates a series of pressurized air wave pulsations applied to the skin where the injury is located. Shockwave therapy stimulates the body’s soft tissues (muscles, tendons, and connective tissue) natural self-healing process. The physical effects are to form new blood vessels, stimulate collagen production, break down calcium deposits in tendons, mediate pain, and release trigger points.

Shockwave is an extremely successful treatment for a wide range of conditions reporting a 91% success rate when combined with guided exercise programs.

  • Jumper’s knee
  • Achilles Tendonitis
  • Hamstring tendon issues
  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Rotator cuff or frozen shoulder
  • Tennis and Golfer’s Elbow

Before Receiving Shockwave Therapy:

Although shockwave is an effective tool in rehabilitation, it is not ideal for everyone or every condition, so it is important that a thorough physical exam is done to assess what your injury is and what treatment would be optimal for your recovery. This may or may not include shockwave, and this is why at Flo Physio shockwave treatment, if indicated, is included in your session and is not an additional charge.

It is important that the Shockwave Therapy is administered by a physio as there are certain health conditions where it is not appropriate such as open wounds, cancer, pregnancy, infection, circulatory disorder, nerve disorder, and individuals taking blood-thinning medications.
